I remember the day that I was able to walk this house. Just driving up to it, I had never seen a house in such disarray, and it wasn’t just the outside either. The yard was piled with junk everywhere. When we walked the house, we started to draw out plans on what we were going to do to rehabilitate the home. Because the house was under 1k square feet we knew we needed to take out a few walls and make the floorplan as open as we could. The first thing we did was remove the wall between the front door and the kitchen. This allowed for the open kitchen view. Then we decided, as this is a single bath, we made the hallway closet smaller which pulled the wall out of the bathroom to create more vanity space. We also opened up the wall between the kitchen and the living area to create a bar style countertop. While doing this, we were observing the kitchen and realized we needed additional wall space for cabinets, so we moved the door going into the garage over 3 ft to provide for a full kitchen. There was a recessed wall with built in bright blue cabinetry in the living area that we removed and replaced with recycled fence boards on a 45-degree angle. This gave the living area a rustic look and the entire house a more open and inviting vibe. The front yard was refreshed by removing the fence and highlighting the extra driveway for additional parking. In the backyard we added a decomposed granite patio space and the rest was left as a blank canvas for the new homeowners.
